Shrocket - the spacey mushroom rocket

Product information "Shrocket - the spacey mushroom rocket"

The Shrocket – developed by Alexander Alber and Clemens Grünewald – is either a rocket that looks like a mushroom… or a mushroom that looks like a rocket. Honestly, we’re not even sure anymore. What we do know: once soldered, it lights up in every color of the rainbow – and takes off in style.

Best of all: it’s beginner-friendly. Only a few parts need to be soldered on the back – and suddenly you’ve got a cool pin, pendant, or simply the geekiest mushroom-rocket companion for everyday life. The LEDs are THT (through-hole) parts, but they are soldered lying flat on the back. That way there are no holes on the front – and the Shrocket can shine in full mushroom-rocket glory.

Not very experienced with soldering yet? No problem! A detailed guide walks you through this little soldering adventure step by step.

Who it’s for

The Shrocket is designed as a beginner soldering kit. Adults and kids can have just as much fun with it – though kids shouldn’t solder alone, of course. The parts are large enough to make learning to solder easy, and the workload stays manageable. And the shape? Who needs a normal blinky light when you can have a glowing mushroom rocket? Best order a few extras: as a gift for friends, partners, or the next geek party, the Shrocket is hard to beat.

What’s in the Shrocket soldering kit

Our kits always include all the parts you need for soldering. Unfortunately we can’t ship batteries – but you can get them at a hardware store or larger supermarket (more under “Tools you’ll need”). Included in the kit:

The PCB

The PCB is the heart of the Shrocket – and its personality: mushroom cap meets rocket body. It’s made from FR4 fiberglass with a gold finish and a white solder mask. Some areas are slightly translucent – that’s where the nice glow effect comes from.

RGB LEDs

This is where the magic happens! RGB stands for Red-Green-Blue. What looks like one LED is actually three tiny LEDs plus a small circuit that slowly cycles through the rainbow. Look closely: the black dot inside the LED is the whole circuit. Yes, really that tiny. Just connect 3 V – and the Shrocket lifts off in color.

The SMD battery holder

The battery holder for CR2032 cells is soldered onto the surface like the other parts. How that works is explained in the guide. The battery itself then just clicks in and lasts about 4–8 hours of continuous use. So: switch it off when your Shrocket isn’t launching. Replacements are easy to find in well-stocked supermarkets, hardware stores, and Swedish furniture stores.

A switch

Of course – no launch button, no rocket. The switch is easy to use (great for kids’ and adults’ hands) and stays reliably in the position you set (on or off). That satisfying “click” delivers both haptic and acoustic joy.

Tools you’ll need

What a minimal soldering workspace looks like is described here: The soldering workspace

To make the Shrocket light up, you’ll also need one CR2032 battery per kit (hardware store, large supermarket, or Swedish furniture store).

Tweezers are especially helpful for this kit :)

Instructions and help

To make soldering easy, there’s a detailed guide with lots of photos and step-by-step instructions – including tips and tricks for proper soldering.

All information including the Shrocket guide can be found here: https://github.com/Binary-Kitchen/SolderingTutorial/tree/master/Shrocket

For environmental reasons we don’t print our guides. On screen you can even zoom into the high-resolution photos. Every kit also includes a QR code or link to the instructions.

Lovingly packed by hand

All soldering kits are lovingly packed by hand in Germany. Every now and then a part may accidentally be included too many or too few times. Too many? Keep them and build something cool. Too few? Just send us a short email – we’ll ship the missing parts.
